Whistle - STL File Tweaker for Windows

Whistle will remain free to use but if you make money from using it a small donation via Paypal to gb@bramblingbooks.co.uk would be useful to help pay hosting costs etc.

The design is unusual, not the standard MDI (Multiple Document Interface). Separate windows are spawned for each .STI file.

For added fun there's a cam interface. Why? The cam image can be mapped as live, moving texture to any model producing some unusual results which can be cut and paste into any supporting application.

Functionality includes:

  • Move facets and vertexes
  • Wire frame or solid view
  • Axis display on or off
  • Object and background colour control
  • Cam texture – map the cam image as a texture - if cam supports 24 bit BGR colours. Let me know if you have another format.
  • Sub divide / add facets
  • Alpha channel – transparency – control
  • Snap shot – copy the window image to the clipboard
  • STL Header text display
  • Zoom, pan, rotate using keyboard and mouse
  • STL saving is disabled after a few days.

Notes:

  • If you map the cam and the object just seems to change colour – get up real close – the images are 320 x 240 pixels and may only be a fraction of the size of the object.
  • If you map the cam and the object doesn't change – may not support 24 bit BI_BGR colour. Ask me.
  • Tiny objects are rescaled to 1 (one).
  • Big STL files plus cam texture will really test your machine's performance and movement and mouse actions may slow.

Downloads:

There's no installer so run it from the desktop or any convenient folder. Whistle will not modify your system in any way but will create C:\Whist1e to store data and temporary files.
